Stunning image of frozen Lake Dillon

IMAG1744_1.jpg

This afternoon I drove by Lake Dillon just outside of Keystone, Colorado. The light was stunning.

I used my HTC One X phone to capture this image. The key was adjusting my camera setting to reduce contrast by one step before taking the shot. I also tapped the screen over the brightest part of the sky to keep the whites from completely blowing out. The reduction in contrast then kept the blacks from blocking up when the camera exposed for the bright sky.

I then edited the image in my phone in the Snapseed app, where I turned it black and white, further reduced the contrast and brightness, then selectively added some contrast and light to specific parts.

Overall I am pleased with the power of the combo of HTC phone and Snapsneed app. Of course, they become even more powerful when I slow down and think about exposure before I take a shot.
